Dad and the Cat and the Tree By Kit Wright
Summary of the Poem
One day (in the morning) a cat climbed a tree to high and it got stuck there. It was unable to come down without anyone’s help. The tree was tall and shaky. Dad got ready to save the cat. He didn’t care about Mum’s (Mother’s) warning about his safety.
Dad was over confident of his skill in climbing up a tree. It was very easy task for him. He got out (got out= brought out) the ladder from the garden shed. But as he climbed it, it slipped (slid) and he fell to the ground in the flower bed. But he didn’t accept his defeat. He brushed the dirt of his clothes and face. He got ready to try plan ‘B’. This time, he was confident of success.
Dad climbed the tree and sat on a branch. It broke and he fell down again. Mum (Mother) warned him again to stop climbing as she was afraid he would break his neck. But Dad again didn’t accept his defeat and decided to try plan ‘C’.
He climbed up high on the garden wall. This time, he didn’t fall. He gave a great leap and he landed flat in the crook of the tree trunk right on the cat. The cat gave a yell and sprang to the ground. (The cat gave a loud shriek and fell on the ground). It was very pleased and safe and sound. It suffered no injury. It was smiling and safe. But the poor old Dad was still stuck up the tree.
